CITY OF EVERETT BRAND IDENTITY
The logo I created evokes the most compelling aspects of Everett, Washington's municipal heritage. The fundamental structure of the logo is that of a shield. The left half of the shield represents the city's maritime identity, expressed in the undulating blue lines arranged across this portion of the logo. The right half of the shield speaks to Everett's spirit of innovation and the city's stunning ecological context; this half displays the "E" of Everett in a bright, beautiful green. This green references smart and sustainable invention.
My logo is flexible and can be arranged into multiple designs. It can accompany the wordmark for a clean, professional presentation, but can also stand alone for a more simplistic aesthetic. My logo elements share a coherence and can be combined in varied ways to fit a specific medium, message, or audience.
Though the structure denotes a shield, there is another purpose behind the design. Inspired by the history of Everett, the logo can be read as a three-dimensional pillar that honors the industrial growth of the city. The triangular nexus at which all three elements meet tells the story of how members of this port city come together to achieve great things for their community.
This logo was created for the City of Everett logo competition in October 2014. I made it into the top 15 semi-finalist out of 850 submissions.
